The (Invisible) Habit Blocking Your Power

Read time: 2.5 minutes

The moment that changed everything for me didn’t look dramatic on the outside.

No big failure. No meltdown. No aha moment.

Just me, sitting in a café, mid-conversation with someone I really cared about—and realizing I wasn’t actually there.

My body was there. My eyes were nodding.

But my mind? Racing ahead.

To the next meeting. The next message. The next item on the to-do list.

And right then, I caught it:

“I wasn’t being present.”

That tiny realization hit harder than I expected.

Because if I wasn’t being present here, how many other moments was I missing?

That was the beginning.

Not of a complete transformation—but of a shift in my being.

And it taught me one of the most powerful things I’ve learned (and now teach):

You don’t have to become something new. You just have to notice when you’re not being who you want to be.

That’s how I started becoming more present.

Not by reading another book. Not by downloading a new app.

But by catching myself in the act of not being present.

Because when you catch the opposite of what you want to be—what’s left is the choice to shift.

And that’s true for anything.

If you want to step more into your power? Notice when you’re not.

Like when a client doesn’t renew and you don’t ask why.

When someone says “I’ll think about it,” and you just nod and walk away—because following up feels like too much.

That’s the moment. That’s the cue.

You don’t need to shame it. Just see it. Because when you do, you can choose again.

Want to be a better listener?

Think of the last time you weren’t.

When your spouse was talking but your mind was spinning. When your kid was telling you something and you were scrolling.

Notice it.

Because here’s the beautiful thing:

The more you notice, the more you shift.

And your brain? It adapts. It tunes in. It starts filtering for the very thing you want to become.

Every thought, every belief, every self-image you hold?

It precedes every action you take.

So the more you declare, “I want to be a better listener,” the more your actions will align with that intention.

And no—none of this is fixed.

You’re not stuck being “bad at sales.” You’re not doomed to be “inconsistent.” You’re not “just not good with money.”

Those are stories. And stories can shift.

As Alan Watts once said:

You are under no obligation to be the same person you were five minutes ago.”

That’s what being is all about.

And the second you realize being implies choice—you unlock a new level of power.

Because we are always evolving. Just like nature.

Plants either grow or they die. Businesses either scale or they stall.

There is no such thing as “stable."

You are either growing by choice—or defaulting by habit.

So here’s my invitation to you:

Whatever you want to become more of—

  • Powerful.

  • Present.

  • Patient.

  • Focused.

  • Kind.

  • Clear.

Whatever it is…

Catch the moments when you’re not being that.

And let those be your portals to return.

To choose again.

Because when you make the conscious choice to shift—not just once, but every time you notice—you start rewriting your identity from the inside out.

So right now, take a few minutes.

Ask yourself:

Where have I not been who I want to BE?

Don’t judge it. Just see it. And then decide again.

Because the first time you miss it? That’s human. But the second time?

That’s a choice.

You got this, my friend.

Much Love,

Julian
